Smallmouth fishing is going strong in our local rivers with crayfish patterns taking many of the bigger fish and top water bugs accounting for decent numbers but smaller sized fish. The Conneaut still has a good number of lake run fish as does the Grand. Pond fishing has again been going very well with the gills providing very steady action and the largemouth providing plenty of excitement on deer hair poppers and divers. Anglers targeting carp are having decent success with nymph patterns, clousers, and crayfish while casting to feeding fish in the shallows of our local rivers. With the low and clear conditions of our rivers anglers covering more water are having better success as they are allowing more fish to see their offerings. As with most fishing if your not catching keep moving until you do, but don't hesitate to fish the same holes on your way back up or down stream with a different fly.

Pennsylvania trout fishing remains very good, as it should be this time of year, sulphurs and green drakes are the big players this time of year so if you are heading East make sure to have plenty of these in your box in nymphs, emergers, duns, and spinners as fish feed on all stages depending on time of day, emergence, etc...

Just in from my sources in North Central PA, the Drakes have started and will be in full affect by Friday, Saturday....Followed by the Giant Brown Drakes....Wish i could go

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and good luck fishing.

MY LITTLE BROTHER SENT THESE TROUT PICS....

FROM AN UNNAMED PA CREEK...

JIMMY WITH A GREAT PENNS CREEK BROWN....
..

OIL CREEK HAS BEEN VERY GOOD RECENTLY....

It seems no matter where guys are fishing in PA it has been very good. Sulphurs are starting to pop good and the March Brown spinner falls have been thick. Sulphurs in my opinion are probably the best bug in PA because the trout can't seem to resist them and they bring up big fish. If you are planning to go to PA trout fishing the next two weeks are looking very promising. Stop in the shop for the patterns that have been working best.

Some large smallmouth are still being caught and good numbers of smaller river fish as well but the rivers are very low and clear making everything a little spooky. Guys have reported catching everything from catfish, to muskies, to garfish, to you name it in the rivers recently especially lower down so if you are planning on going out be prepared for anything.

Pond and small lake fishing has again been very good as the Bluegill are on beds making sight fishing very good and the Bass have been feeding very well on top with the warmer weather.

HOT FLIES: Trout Dries: Parachute and comparadun Sulphurs, elk hair caddis, adams, march browns. NYMPHS: pheasant tails, stroups sulphur nymph, princes, caddis larve, midge larva,

Largemouth: Deer hair poppers in Green/yellow, red/white, flash tail poppers, crispy critters.

Smallmouth: Clousers in Gray/white, Chart/white Blue/white, flashtail diver Black, crayfish.

Panfish: Panfish aggravator, wooly buggers, prince of buggers, girdle bugs.

BASSIN' ON THE CHAGRIN WITH THE DOC...

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL UPPER CHAGRIN SMALLIE....

FISHING THROUGH DOWNPOUR FOR WILD CANADIAN STEEL!!!

AND THE REWARD!!!!

FISHED WITH A GREAT GROUP OF GUYS FROM THE SHOP IN CANADA THIS PAST WEEKEND FOR STEELHEAD AND HAD A PHENOMENAL TIME WITH DECENT FISHING FOR STEEL AND EXCEPTIONAL SMALLMOUTH ACTION. WILL POST MORE PICS IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS I RECEIVE THEM. THE RIVERS WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO FISH WERE ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS AND THE GUIDES WORKED EXTREMELY HARD GETTING US INTO FISH. UNFORTUNATELY THE STEELHEADING ON THE NORTH SHORE WAS WINDING DOWN AS WELL AND WE DID NOT GET INTO A BUNCH OF STEEL BUT THE ONES WE DID MANAGE WERE WELL WORTH THE EFFORT. THE SMALLMOUTH ACTION (PICS TO COME) WAS BORDERLINE RIDICULOUS AS IT SEEMED YOU COULD NOT KEEP THEM OFF THE HOOK, SWUNG STREAMERS INTENDED FOR STEEL WERE HAMMERED ON ALMOST EVERY CAST WHEN A POD OF SMALLMOUTH WAS LOCATED. MORE ON THIS TRIP TO COME WITH NEXT POST.

AS FOR OUR LOCAL TRIBS GUYS IN THE SHOP HAVE BEEN CATCHING A FEW VERY FRESH STEEL ON THE GRAND AND CONNIE WHILE SEARCHING FOR SMALLLIES THAT ARE PROVIDING FAIRLY GOOD ACTION. IT SEEMS THE GUYS COVERING THE WATER FOR SMALLMOUTH ARE DOING MUCH BETTER THAN THE GUYS POUNDING THE SAME SPOTS. KEEP ON THE MOVE FOR THESE LAKE RUN FISH UNTIL YOU LOCATE THEM, AGAIN STICK TO THE FIRST FEW MILES OF RIVER FOR THESE GUYS. STREAMER PATTERNS SUCH AS CLOUSERS, AND ZONKERS DO VERY WELL IN OLIVE, BLACK, WHITE, AND GRAY.

PA TROUT FISHING IS IN FULL SWING WITH SULPHURS STARTING TO POP WITH ALOT OF CADDIS AND MARCH BROWNS AROUND FOR GOOD MEASURE. THE NEXT FEW WEEKS IS PRIME TIME FOR PA TROUT FISHING SO IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON GOING STOP IN THE SHOP TO FIND OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING ON YOUR FAVORITE STREAM AND GET THE HOTTEST FLY PATTERNS.

BASSING ON THE LOCAL FARM PONDS AND LAKES HAS BEEN PICKING UP AS THE LARGEMOUTH AND BLUEGILLS ARE ON THE SPRING FEED. BAIT FISH PATTERNS FOR THE BASS WITH SOME TOP WATER ACTIVITY AND SMALL NYMPHS AND POPPERS FOR THE PANFISH ARE WORKING WELL.

THE CLEAR FORK OF THE MOHICAN HAS BEEN FISHNG PRETTY WELL FOR BROWNS WITH CADDIS PATTERNS PROVIDING THE BEST ACTION UP TOP, PHEASANT TAILS AND CADDIS LARVA HAVE BEEN THE HOT NYMPHS.

WILD BROWNS AND.....

RAINBOWS CAN BE FOUND ON MANY PA STREAMS.

LAKE RUN SMALLIES SHOWING UP IN FORCE ON ERIE TRIBS....

Fly Fishing the New England Surf....
Looking for giant stripers...

JUSTINS OFF TO MARTHAS VINEYARD AGAIN FOR THE SUMMER...

Steelhead season is just about over on the Ohio tribs while the lake run smallies are beginning to show up in good numbers and good size. For these pre-spawn fish streamers work as well as anything as they are super hungry and aggressive this time of year.

Pennsylvania trout season is in full swing as the march browns are hatching well and a few sulphurs are starting to make an appearance as well. Tan and green caddis are also showing up as well as BWO's, crane flies, and some gray foxes. If you are fishing PA remember to fish darker dry flies in the mornings (browns and dark Grays) and lighter in the afternoons (creams, light Grays) to best match the hatches this time of year. For local anglers looking for a PA trout fix Oil Creek is fishing extremely well with Green Caddis providing great dry fly fishing. Central PA has been fishing well also with Spring Creek providing its best fishing for a long time. Penns Creek is turning on and the Little Juniata has been fishing well with hatches increasing in both duration and numbers of bugs bringing more and more fish to the top.

Grand: 359 cfs very clear and good smallmouth numbers in lower river.

Conneaut: Low and Clea but plenty of good sized smallmouth in the lower stretches.

Vermilion: 39 cfs. decent numbers of smallies around and tons of rock bass.

Rocky: 119 cfs pretty low and clear, decent smallie fishing and good sight fishing to carp.

Remember to stop by the shop for your fly fishing supplies as we are well stocked with everything you need for springtime fly fishing.

OIL CREEK BROWN TROUT DURING THE GRANNOM HATCH
THIS PAST WEEK....
SMALLMOUTH BITE IS HEATING UP....

PLENTY OF FRESH CHROME STILL COMING TO THE NETS
ON THE EAST SIDE TRIBS....

Friday night rains brought the rivers up and probably brought in a fair push of fresh steel along with a good push of Smallmouths. If you are looking for some great fishing on the Ohio tribs without the crowds this will be your week. The Steelhead bite has been excellent on the Grand and Conneaut and the recent rain and cool temps will keep the bite going strong through the next week. Remember the Lake temp. is only around 44 Degrees which means there are still plenty of steelhead waiting to enter the East side tribs.

Grand: 793 cfs with about 2 feet of vis as of 1 pm Sat. with fresh fish moving upstream. Holding good number of steel and many smallmouth in the lower stretches.

Chagrin: 510 cfs with about 8 inches of vis. Should be prime by Sunday and the lower stretches are still holding some fish. Would not be surprised if this rain brought in some fresh steelhead.

Conneaut: the lower river has plenty of fish with the numbers decreasing as you head above rt 90. and in excellent condition for the weekend.

Vermilion: Still a good amount of steel and worth hitting for lake run smallies.

Rocky: 442 with a foot of vis from recent rains. Some steel left but turning to smallies and carp.
